To Pray, To Serve and To Grow!

Welcome to the Development Section of our web site. The Holy Rosary sisters from over sixteen countries appreciate your stopping by to visit our web site today. We enjoy sharing our ministry with you and encourage you to email us any questions you may have regarding any of the works you are reading about. We pray that, when you can, you might contribute what you can afford, to help our work to grow. It is through the generosity of people like you that we are able to holistically embrace marginalized and oppressed people with the goal of empowering them.

So you may better understand where your gifts may be used we will provide you here with relevant information about our three areas of international gift giving:

Our Missions        Formation/professional training        Our Retired Sisters

As you continue to visit this section of the web site we will share new activity in each of these areas and on occasion will feature an "Area of greatest need."

Our Missions

Aids Awareness in Kenya

Sister Emer McGovern oversees an Aids Awareness program in Thika, Kenya and within the program trains people to provide Aids Awareness to upper primary school (Junior High School level 7th, 8th and 9th graders). This program is run in up to sixty schools for all three grade levels with approximately 200 students in each class. The workshops and seminars on health and well being are critical to the health of future generations of our African neighbors.

Besides our Sister Emer's program we have eight other countries where our sisters run aids programs. They all rely upon your help. Please provide our sisters the means to continue to bring aid awareness knowledge to the thousands upon thousands of students that will benefit as will their family members.

New Hope in Sierra Leone

Six Holy Rosary sisters from three different countries have recently come together to return to Sierra Leone to continue their refugee program there. The Sisters from Cameroon, Nigeria and Ireland will begin their work in Freetown, researching and assessing the needs of the displaced people. They will help them reconcile their differences among themselves and where they can, will assist in peacemaking programs. They will work towards restoring the dignity of the people and will work with them as individuals to improve their self image which was brought down by their circumstances. Ultimately they wish to fuel new hope in the various communities empowering them to begin again.

Formation

We currently have formation centers in Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria and Brazil. There are forty women in the five-year formation program at this time that must be supported by the sisters while they complete their formation experience and move forward as vowed sisters to their various missions. The Holy Rosary Sisters are excited about these women and their call to mission.

This formation will also assure the continued growth of the Holy Rosary sisters and the continuation of the service to the very needy that they are able to do throughout the world. To help one woman become a sister costs $62,500 for the full five year program ($12,500 per year). Please help our sisters grow in community and service. Helping them, helps so many others.

Our Retired Sisters

Ireland, the land of our founding is now also the home of our retired sisters. Retirement to a sister means leaving the mission field but that doesn't mean leaving their vocation or their ministry. The retired sisters, primarily Irish, Scottish and English continue to work through prayer and age-appropriate ministries as long as their general health allows. However the Holy Rosary Community must be sure that when a sister's physical strength gives out, there is a retirement health care facility for them and that their needs are taken care of. The community has done this in developing a Retirement Center in Dublin which currently provides 24 hour care for over forty sisters with serious medical issues.

The cost for staffing and the operating expenses of this center must be raised. Our sisters have served God's people well and now we as a community must provide for them. Given that many of our formerly active sisters are reaching retirement age at the same time it is particularly challenging. In addition to the center for those in physical need of 24 hour health care, we are developing an assisted living facility. We hope you can help us in this need.
