Jesus
was often asked questions by people who hoped to trip him up.
In one such case a certain man asked him what was necessary to
enter into eternal life. When Jesus responded we must love God
and love our neighbor the man persisted and "anxious to
justify himself asked Jesus, who is my neighbor?" Jesus
asks at the end of the parable, "which one made himself
a neighbor?"

Justice & Peace
Who are our neighbors today?
At first glance it appears that, in his parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus is saying we must help those in distress. But there is much more to the story. In this parable, as in all Jesus said and did, he challenged the established order of things, asking that we look deeply into our reality and see that all people are neighbors and our attitude to the other must be one of compassion in action.
As Missionaries we daily encounter those in distress. These encounters force us to keep asking the burning questions. The why questions, that move us from charity, to charity with justice. We invite you to reflect with us on global issues that affect all our neighbors and our environment and thus call everyone to acts of justice. Let us attempt together, one issue at a time, to un-wrap the problems and seek the best solutions.
Advocacy for the Poor: A Municipal Health Council in the Amazon
In a small town in the Brazilian Amazonian state of Para, a group of local rural and urban leaders and two MSHR sisters got together to see what we could do to better living conditions. In the area of health care, we found that the Brazilian Constitution, theoretically offers a unique opportunity for the users of the public health system to contribute to policies for bettering health services and supervise the spending of federal, state and local funds by the city governments through what are known as Municipal Health Councils.
